Horizontal auger boring or jack and bore, is an established method used when installing steel pipes or casing under freeways, canals or railroad tracks that require a underground-boring machine. Conducting a successful horizontal auger boring project is not an easy task and requires not only expert knowledge, experience and commitment to excellence but the proper horizontal boring machine to be used with any jack and bore jobs. The team at SSC Boring provides state of the art professional horizontal auger boring services for utility installation. We have developed many of the auger boring techniques that have become the industry standards today for underground boring. With our industry leading experience in horizontal boring and jack and bore jobs completed, we know we have the right solution for any tunneling that requires a horizontal boring machine.
Typical Applications for Horizontal Boring:
Placement of steel casing under geographic features such as freeways, canals and railroad tracks to carry water lines, sewer lines, irrigation lines, etc.
Description:
Auger cased boring is a technique where a bore or tunnel is formed from a bore pit to a reception pit by means of a rotating, cutting head. Spoils are removed back to the bore pit by helically wound auger flighting rotating inside a steel casing. Once the reception pit is reached and the auger is removed, the casing remains in the ground and carrier lines are installed. This is the most effective process for jack and bore jobs.
Limitations:
Bores range in diameter from 8” to 72” with lengths as long as 800’.
Considerations:
- Soil conditions
- Job configuration
- May require special equipment
- Environmentally sensitive
- No traffic disruption
